Evelyn M. Covington, 84, of Wichita Falls, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, April 1, 2015, after a short but courageous battle with colon and liver cancer. A private graveside service will be held in Crestview Memorial Park. A public Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, April 6, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1417 Eleventh St. Visitation will be from 7:00 until 8:00 pm Sunday evening at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.

Evelyn M. Covington, 84, of Wichita Falls, passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, April 1, 2015, after a short but courageous battle with colon and liver cancer. Evelyn was born in Herrick, South Dakota, to the late Gustav E. and Martha Horst Youngberg. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1948 where she was a member of the National Honor Society in her senior year. Evelyn worked for the Best Companies as their Chief Accountant for 57 years, until her retirement in 2009. During that time, she earned the title of Certified Apartment Manager as well as Certified Occupancy Specialist. One of the main highlights in Evelyn's life was when she was the President of the Jayceetes in 1958 and helped host a dinner for Lady Bird Johnson.

In 1950, Evelyn married her grade school sweetheart, Rubin E. Covington, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They were married for 63 years. Evelyn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for 72 years, where she held offices on the Boards of Education and Stewardship, served as Chairman and President of Christian Growth, served as Treasurer in the Mary-Martha Society and also as Secretary of the church on two different occasions, as well as Church Treasurer for ten years. She also sang in the choir.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Vivian McAtee, and her son-in-law, Dennis Spoor. Survivors include her three children: her son Rubin W. Covington and wife, Janet of Wichita Falls, Texas; her son Rudy A. Covington and wife, Charlotte of Arlington, Texas; and her daughter Kathy Spoor of Wichita Falls, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Rubin W. Covington, Jr. and his wife, Katrina of Mansfield, Texas; Tiffany Hernandez and her husband, Orlando of Asheville, North Carolina; Clint Thorman also of Asheville, North Carolina; Misty Martin and her husband, Bruce of Southlake, Texas; Jana French and her husband, Brady of Roanoke, Texas; Leslie Wilson and her husband, Rob of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lindsey Sandidge and her husband, Clint of Arlington, Texas; and Lisa Kaiser also of Arlington, Texas; as well as 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Rubin, Rudy, and Kathy would like to extend special thanks to the nurses at Hospice for the excellent care given their Mom in her final days. They are truly angels sent by God and indeed a blessing beyond words.
